You might think of these paintings as maps or blueprints that are conceived in an interior world where the soul manifests itself into a concrete world. With my abstract and non-objective work I sometimes start with dissimilar cells of color and forms that act as a springboard to construct and ascertain different compositions that become harmonies, and, sometimes discords. I focus on color as the main primary element in my painting, and seek to create striking, never-before-seen combinations of color. Sometimes the paintings visualize and make themselves known completely in my head, before I ever begin painting, and other times the paintings start with ideas and forms from nature that can originate from an organic form such as a tree, rock, or fallen leaf. Like every other great artist in history, I seek to create my own mythography. I am creating my own myth in that my paintings are primordial, elemental, and concerned with aesthetic process. Along with a concern for color and texture, my paintings are also created from a complex set of visual imagery, which comes from a world of private metaphors and symbols.
I hope to extend the aesthetic and conversation of the abstract expressionists.
I am represented by Portland Classic Gallery of Portland, Oregon, and will be present for the USA at the 2009 Florence Biennial, in Florence, Italy.
I do paint every day of my life, even if it is for just an hour (though usually it is much more than that). Everyone is welcome to visit me in my studio. I am too prolific a painter to post everything on my website I do. I do hundreds of drawings each month, if you are interested in my drawings and paintings you may visit my studio, or contact me about information regarding my work in commercial galleries.
Thank you.
